Scottie McDaniell (Letters)

Scottie E. McDaniell grew up in the military as the daughter of an Air Force officer and pilot. Although her family moved often and lived in places far distant, her roots are those of the South, and Florida, in particular. A perpetual tourist, the love of travel has never diminished. She has lived in England, visited most of our states, Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Orient, Guatemala, the Panama Canal route, Scandinavia, Russia, Estonia, Egypt, Yugoslavia, and the Czech Republic.
She was educated in military, public, and private schools and at the University of Nebraska and Florida State University. Her business career has included retail management, and administrative work in the fields of Consulting, Engineering, Banking, and Medicine. She has modeled the merchandise and equipment of two of the companies for which she worked. She has established two business libraries and written a technical manual on that procedure. She was named an American Business Women’s Association “Woman of the Year.” She was an OSI Secret Agent.
Scottie has written for and edited business and organization newsletters. Articles she has authored have appeared in: The Orlando Sentinel, League Life (monthly Junior League magazine), Events 101 Magazine (benefiting the Orlando Museum of Art), and house organs. By her grant submission a Walt Disney World Community Service Award was won for the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital. She pens humorous poems for colleagues, friends, family, and groups and continues to write and prepare journals of trips taken and visits with family and friends. She has written a six-book children’s series.
In addition to the National League of American Pen Women, she belongs to the Junior League of Greater Orlando, Daughters of the American Revolution, Southern Dames of America, Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity, and the Council of 101.
Writer’s Statement
The need for self-expression is surely universal, and our thoughts and feelings are revealed through some avenue. I choose to do it with words – poetry, short stories, articles, books. They are my artist’s paints, my sculptor’s clay, my actor’s gestures, my musician’s notes. Sometimes the process is laborious; other times it comes so easily I forget I’m the one writing! It’s no mystery, no deep longing or message. It’s more simplistic for me: I just love to write!
